Late December trip 2018 – part 1

I’ve posted these 3 stories in Danish on my private facebook. They mattered to people, so I decided to translate them (however crude) to English so they would give value here.

Præstø

December 28, 2018

Then it was my turn to go on a winter trip. The trip went from Lynetten and a course south of Dragør. There was no destination … Sailed until I could feel what it was I really wanted.
Create the experience! See a new place and wander around in the deserted winter. See windows lit by the television while nature fits itself outside.
Køge bay rounds rapidly below the keel with 6-7 knots.
When Stevns Klint shows itself to starboard I was curious. The course was set against Stevns cliff and in a dull gray weather, I rounded the lighthouse and was greeted with a beautiful sunset…

I have heard a lot about Præstø and the bay there. It was supposed to be a gem of Danish nature and a safe water to be in. Frem Stevns i was just able to keep the old lady pointed well against the wind. With a starry sky above me, 5 knots over the ground we approached Præstø entrance.

Two hours later, I round the first bend of the entrance. A red boyu to port.
But alas. The red buoy does not show up, but I trust my GPS and I turn the boat to the south and go towards the narrow entrance to Præstø. Between the Horseshoe and Stenrøsen.
Can’t recommend going into Præstø on a dark evening. None of the buoys are illuminated and you end up having your heart running at high speed for 1 hour. At the same time, you stand and swipe across the black horizon with a lamp to find the red and green buoys further ahead.
At 8 pm I call a lone bridge in Præstø. It’s Y bum’s bridge. Caring for them is one single hand one has to think about 4-6 moorings. Fortunately, the wind is with me, or rather against me. So when the front starboard mooring is on, the boat lies up from the backboard boom and you can almost feel her say. Thanks for today; You know what to do.
4 moorings after, I swap to normal clothing and go for a quick walk in Præstø’s dark streets. It turns out that there are 3 places in Præstø at this time. 1 cafe with 3 couples sitting and romanticizing it; faithfully watched by 2 week waiters. 2 Bar / Bodegaer where a smoke cloud stands out. Could use a beer now, but smokey places makes me feel bad… It will be a trip in the supermarked; a good evening beer on the deck.
