Space – Sorting out your life
Space… the final frontier. Sorry, I’m a big Star Trek fan so couldn’t help my self. This post is about the spaces we call home…and maybe you will get a tip or two about cleaning up your life.
I just came from my parents place where i stayed over the weekend and while laying in their living room, watching a film on a big 50” plasma (no way im fitting that in the boat), i realised….I can fit my entire “boat home” in their living room. Where they just watch television and socialise, i can do the same but also, live, cook, go to the bathroom, sleep, sail to, store (and if you have more ideas feel free to give add in the comments). Note… This was just their living room?
So that got me to thinking…what is space for us? I admit that my parents are not wealthy so their living room will most likely only get bigger if you find another home with a higher income.
Except I don’t really have much of standing head room in my boat, but in ground floor and storage measurements i think i have enough. I can have my clothing, spare parts, “general stuff” ktichen gear and etc. BUT NO MORE!. A boat reall
It challenges me to cut away all the **it and focus on what i really need and can sustain..If i have a device that i might use in 10 years. Maybe i’ll save it??? Nope! Get rid of it!
The background of being at my parents place, was that they are moving to a house even bigger, and therefore wanted to clear out the stuff stored at the attic. Toys and old memories as such. Being able not to store stuff on board like in an attic, got me thinkg; who would actually want to? It hit me that you should sort your “material life baggage” right now so you don’t feel dragged down from it. Don’t buy to save, buy to use right now….and then sell/get rid of it.
So to sum of this post.
Home is where the heart is and the space you call home can be any size; no reason to discriminate. But… a home can also weigh you down; it can actually be too big or you can use it for storage and not keep your material possessions in check. Calling a boat a home have made me realise that we really don’t need much as human beings. A home can be a boat, a truck (awesome people to follow on youtube BTW), a tent, a hut in “middle of no where” or whatever space we make our home.
If you are reading this post with a house home; then i challenge you to do this. Find your measuring tape/ruler and measure 7 meters x 2,5 meters. That’s the space i live in as a single male human being. If you want something for 3 people. Then try; 12 x 3,5 meters. That’s is the size of the boat i grew up in, and i’ve always thought that fitted 3 people well.
If you have any questions or comments then im pretty sure you know what to do 🙂
Till next time.

your boat is your space
